Synchronicity- Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related, conceived in Jungian theory as an explanatory principle on the same order.
Has anything ever happened in your life that you felt was just too coincidental, too perfect to have happened at that very moment?
If you believe that everything is mere coincidence, you probably do not believe in synchronicity. If you believe in synchronicity and everything happening in perfect order, then coincidences may not exist in your world.
Have you ever played a game that I like to call “connecting the dots?”
This is when you look back at things in your life and point out some different experiences that happened that might have baffled you in the moment, but in retrospect, if they didn’t happen you would not be where you are today. When some events are identified then you can playfully connect those events together in a chain till they create a link between them all.
I remember a time not so long ago upon my spiritual journey where I was really frustrated at a lack of clairaudience (ability to hear voices beyond our realm). I seriously wanted to hear a voice from the heavens talk to me, tell me what my answers should be. Didn’t have to be out loud, I would have settled for a whisper or an inner voice! I would even ask a question and then wait in meditation to hear the answer.
Nothing! I was going along being frustrated for quite some time till I got a very gentle message. The message was this…
After you ask your question or ask for guidance, be aware of all the things around you and that come into your field of consciousness.
Then the question was asked…Randy, does synchronicity happen in your life? I quickly said “oh yes! It happens in my life everyday. Everyday I see something that is synchronistic and those are the times that I feel the happiest because I can feel the magic and wonder in the world when things come together like that!”
Then the light bulb went of in my head, I was absolutely getting my questions answered and the guidance I so desperately wanted…it just wasn’t coming in the form I had wanted! I was so rigid in how I thought those messages should be coming to me that I overlooked EVERY other way information was coming in!
It’s like the line from Ferris Bueller’s day off, “life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!”
Stated simply, I believe that synchronicity happens all the time. It can be shown in very subtle ways such as you thinking about someone you haven’t heard from in a while and they call you the very next day. Or it can come in ways not so subtle like if you weren’t in the exact spot at that exact moment, you would not have met someone or something completely different would have happened.
Play around with this exercise of “connecting the dots” and see what you notice. I would love to hear some of your experiences as I know that my own experiences in feeling the power of synchronicity has allowed me to feel my connection to all and to truly see life here as something wonderful and magical even when it can feel heavy and dark. This can be a life line to a ray of sunshine or an opportunity to crawl out of a quagmire to be free.
Maybe, there is an important reason you are reading this.
Maybe, just maybe…you are experiencing synchronicity in your life through these words right now…

You did it again. Fantastic
Randy,
With regard to your questions, I don’t think I believed in synchronicity before I started working with you. You taught me to open my eyes to the world around me, in order to experience the different ways I could find the answers to my questions. The answers didn’t always have to come from the source I was expecting, such as you, to name one example. I also remember talking to you one day and you were playing connect the dots to point out to me how a very unpleasant, dark situation brought me to you and I had found so much good that came out of that. If that’s synchronicity, then I believe in it whole-heartedly now! You were the light at the end (or middle) of the tunnel for me! Though, sometimes it takes me a little longer to find the answers by looking for them in the world around me, instead of looking for a simple, direct answer.
Thank you for opening my eyes to the world around me. And thank you for your inspiring words, once again. I love to read and experience your writing and I use your blogs, words and direction in my life every day. I always go back and read the blogs and am moved by them in a different way each time and learn something new each time. Can’t wait til you post another one
Wonderful column. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I enjoyed reading your column! As a practicing Budhist,I believe things happened for a reason. Whether is good or bad. We just need to slow down in this fast-paced life and breathe, be in the moment. Easy said than done, I know!
We’re too busy multi tasking in this life; work, family, friends, etc..then one day something very bad happened. Whether that something is a divorce, death, health, or lost of job. Some of us will “awaken” and realized “what is the meaning of my life, where am I heading, how do I survive this?” and so on and so forth.. Some of us will just be in denial, angry “ why me?”, “I am rich, I eat right,I am healthy, I have faith in God..” basically: “ I am the exception from the normal population”.
To me under those layers of clothes, fancy jewelry, make-ups etc.. we all have the same physical as human being. We eat with a fork, chopsticks, spoon, one at a time. We sleep in one bed at a time whether you have 1 room or 20 rooms mansion!
We chase after a dream, a job, a lover.. but life is short, we need to be in the moment, to feel “ I’ve arrived”. But how many of us can understand or practice that?
Interestingly enough, I too am a “life coach” in a slightly different capacity as I work with criminals specifically. Your blog hit home today as I was searching for a way to take a clients view on the “spider web” effect and the “connections” he sees in his reality (Native Spirituality) and explain to him how it translates in all cultures and religious beliefs…synchronicity, I like that word. I will share your blog with him as I think it will be a wonderful addition to our conversation today. When my clients open their minds to the idea of synchronicity and start to see the connections, the path always seems to become more clear for them and they also seem to become more grounded knowing that they are part of a larger picture. Thanks Randy.
As the Jewish joke goes, Funny you should mention it.
The way I found your blog was part of the synchronicity you are talking about. Here’s what happened…
I was reading some terrible articles about the mess our world is in. This went on for about an hour. I’m an activist of sorts, still a hippy at heart, and I signed some petitions, etc.
Afterwards, I thought that I needed to cheer up and to clear my head of all that and what better way than to watch “Legally Blond”. :p If that won’t clear your head, nothing will!
So the movie is going along and I’m sitting here eating tortilla chips and drinking wine and Reese Witherspoon’s character says, “I live across the street from Aaron Spelling….” and I thought, “Who is Aaron Spellng?” … connect the dots.
I can really relate to meditating and I hear those voices and I get those little taps on the shoulder that tell me to do this or don’t do that.
I’ve found that with my own naturally hyper self, I have to really put on the brakes and slow down. Sometimes, I just space out. I figure if God wants to tell me something, He’s able, and I figure He doesn’t always have to use words. Too limiting. So I just trust that something is getting through to me and I find that trusting opens a lot of doors for me.
