Body Mind Spirit

Before you start giving me the title “polygamist”, I’m not suggesting you run out and cheat on your significant other or bring someone else into the relationship.  I’m referring to a separate relationship that you have with these three incredibly attractive individual words that all function together as a whole.  The ultimate love triangle that will never cause drama and only provide fulfillment for years to come:

Mind, Body, Spirit

We have heard it, maybe even beaten over the head with it to a point that it starts to sound like a corny catch phrase. Is there any validity to these three iconic new age words that warrants me to break my monogamy with just one of them at a time?  I am here to tell you once and for all…

YES!

Do I have your attention?

Now, before cooking dinner and lighting the candles for this special occasion, let’s look at the relationship between all three and why this is less of an affair and more of a romantic, intimate relationship that needs tremendous care and nurturing.  For instance, let’s say you get your health straightened out on a physical level, you will most likely feel better, function more efficiently and have more energy.  But if you neglect one of the other ones such as your mind by letting it tell you all the reasons why you won’t succeed, aren’t enough of something, don’t deserve _______, you most certainly will be out of balance. And after all, isn’t that what most of us are searching for – Balance? I know I am. I know my Life Coaching clients are.

It’s so interesting when people call me and tell me how, for the most part, their lives are going great.  In their opinion, there might just be one thing that needs adjusting.  But when that specific area is looked at, it usually points in the direction of a few other areas that need to be taken care of and are out of balance.  Mind, body and spirit are all parts of a whole – three separate entities that all form one whole person.  In this way, it cannot be looked at as a threesome but just one relationship.

This is where the word holistic comes in. Holistic is a whole approach to solving a problem not just one singular way.  If your mental aspects are taken care of and you feel happy, healthy and strong mentally but a relationship to your spirit is lacking, you will not discover the depth of fulfillment that you may be longing for. The same goes for just paying attention to your spirit but mistreating the body.

Are you with me so far?  Let’s break it down into each one:

Body

Many people disregard the body’s impact that it has on our health.  How we treat it, what we feed it, what we choose to give it, and how we view it.  We need to nurture our body and give it what it needs and stopping the various things it DOES NOT need.  Various foods, liquid, drugs, alcohol, carbs, sugar, chemicals, caffeine, etc…all need to be re-examined to see if all of those things are either working for you or against you.

Don’t know?  Ask!  (Ask me. You can email me).  Ask yourself.  Call another health coach,  a nutritionist, or do some research on informed websites.  Dig for the truth. It will unveil itself to you if you want it to.  Give your body the attention it deserves.  Oh, and if you are viewing your body negatively and are judging it, saying or thinking unkind things about it, STOP.  Love and appreciate it. It is the only body you will have in this lifetime.  You are married to it so,instead of thinking of all the ways you can get divorced from it, spend all that energy finding ways to adore it.  It’s all you have, so appreciate it.  Doesn’t the old adage go, “If you don’t have your health, what do you have?”

Mind

If you have good health but you have these little voices telling you things that you probably would not tell someone you love, you are not going to get very far on the “Balance” scale. It’s like being in a race.  You go up to the starting line, put your foot on the starting block But when the race starts, you can’t push off of the starting block because your mind is adding 200 pounds to your body with it’s “heavy” thoughts.  Have you ever wondered why you aren’t getting to the places you want to go in life?  It’s not just about force, pushing, and happenstance. There are other components involved.  Three of them being body, mind, and soul.  Your mind can work against you unless you train it to work for you.

How? Find all the ways that it is working against you.  Lasso them up like you are at a rodeo and the bull is getting away.  Then, when you become aware of how they are working against you, change them to work for you.  Find how your thoughts are weighing you down and cut the excess weight.  A strong mind = a strong body. A strong body = a strong mind.  They’re not separate. That’s why you see people doing unbelievable things with their physical bodies.  Half of that is their strong mind and how they use their mind to affect their body.

Spirit

The spirit is the most elusive yet the most powerful.  Being that mind, body, and spirit is a triad, think of it in the form of a pyramid.  Mind is at one base.  Body is at the other, and spirit is at the top.  The spirit is the “overseer” who is really in charge of running the show, whether we are aware of it or not.  The spirit is in action whether we consciously are aware of it or not.  So, how do we nurture the spirit?  The spirit is nurtured any way as it gets it’s nutrients from a completely unlimited power source of unconditional love.

Our job is to nurture our conscious connection with our spirit. To do this, we must “check-in” regularly with our spirit. Make time to commune; to listen. Our spirit whispers to us ever so quietly and it’s our job to listen. All answers are found there. It’s much like learning to speak a foreign language: It takes practice. It takes patience. It takes space and willingness. When we act from our spirit, and we feel aligned with our spirit, we can then bring that unlimited energy through the mind and into the body.

Body, Mind, spirit. What a threesome. Make sure you give attention to all three or you’ll find that the neglected ones will be jealous and things will feel out of balance. The mind, body, and spirit connection is a strong one indeed. When we realize that all three of these are connected as one, balance can be found and fulfillment can be attained. If you have never had a threesome, now is the time to start!
